Abidjan (Ivory Coast): A very special Valentine day, lunch with the street children
14 February 2009
In Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, on February 14 a special Valentine Day was organized by the Community of Sant' Egidio: a party of the love for the poorest.
More than fifty children and adolescents living on the streets, coming from the districts of Treichville, Marcory and Port Bouet, were invited to a lunch in their honor in the seat of the Community.
Songs and dances accompanied the lunch, together with a small health training precious for who everyday is exposed to the thousand dangers of the street.
The Community of Sant' Egidio has been looking after many street children of Abidjan and for them it provides weekly tables in three districts. Along the last five years, around twenty of them decided to return home and were helped to reinsert themselves in their families.
