News from the Nutritional Centre
About 400 children are participating in the School of Peace organised at the Nutritional Centre of Matola. At the same time their mothers are following a course in health education.
About 400 children are participating in the School of Peace organised at the Nutritional Centre of Matola. At the same time their mothers are following a course in health education.
The school is special as it gathers children from 3 to 10 years old! More than 400 have entered the school, and for many of them - not only for the youngest ones- this is the first school experience. After two months school, many of them will enter the regular schools. Thanks to
long
distance adoptions they will afford the school costs.
 In the morning at 8.00 a.m. it is like a party at 8.00. The first children arrive even earlier and they patiently wait for the beginning. Then they write, eat, sing, dance.
The children's' mothers participate in a health education course. At the first meeting more than 100 women are present. They put many questions and they continue thanking us for this course. Once a week the doctor visit the children: many of them are under-nourished, others have not treated wounds.
 Sometimes the centre is the reference point in difficult times. Today, for example, a very young mother, Lucia, came to the centre with Reginaldo, her 4 years old child, who had a nail in his nose. She did not have the money to pay
for the operation and she did not know what to do. She came to us, hoping that we could heal her child. So, after a brief surgery operation, we took them to the central hospital of Maputo and everything went well.
