Ten Years of Peace in Mozambique

On October 4th 1992 the Peace General Agreement that put an end to the war in Mozambique was signed in Rome. The agreement had been reached thanks to the commitment in of the Community of sant'Egidio in the negotiations. Ten years after, it is a feast day in Mozambique, where the "Day of Peace and Reconciliation" is celebrated. The Communities of Sant'Egidio all over the world celebrated this anniversary.

A delegation from the Community, led by don Matteo Zuppi, who played a primary role in the negotiations, is in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, to participate in the official celebrations of the Mozambican government, on the invitation of President J. Chissano.
The Communities of Sant'Egidio have organised events and meetings in other 72 cities of Mozambique.

A conference on the 10 years peace in Mozambique and on the Community's anti-AIDS program took place in Lovanio (Belgium) at The Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve, on October 2nd.
