Rome – The Community of Sant’Egidio has learned in a telephone call with the Armenian Catholic Archbishop of Aleppo, Msgr. Boutros Marayati, that the Archbishopric was attacked today and partially destroyed. It was the latest serious attack in a city under siege for too long. The attack during elections is yet another sign of the barbarization of a situation unfortunately forgotten.
The Community of Sant’Egidio, for years involved in the search for solutions to the crisis and the war, launches an appeal to the international community: We cannot forget Aleppo under siege!
Suitable paths for alleviating the siege of Aleppo, a historic city of peace and an example of coexistence between Muslims and Christians, must be assessed. There is the need for a rapid humanitarian operation in the city’s critical situation!
