The Community of Sant'Egidio has set into motion a project to help Khartoum 2,370 families hit a few weeks ago by a flood. 

The Nile, overflowing because of heavy rains, had destroyed a large number of homes built near the river bank. For the greater part, we deal with families who had taken refuge in Khartoum during the past years to flee from the war that has been going on in the southern part of the country for 18 years. The project provides for the urgent needs of the people: waterproof covering for temporary homes, blankets, food (grain, powdered milk, oil) and soap. 

These materials will allow the families who have been stricken to have some form of shelter and to nourish themselves while they await a more definitive solution to the problem.

A delegation went to the site to acquire and distribute the materials directly to the people.
