He studied biblical theology from 1985 to 1991 and was then appointed as head of the Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem. In 1999 he became bishop of the Lutheran Church of Bavaria. Since 2005 he is leading Bishop of the VELKD (Allied Lutheran Church of Germany).
He is chairman of the Bible Society and of the Commission for the Middle-East of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). He is a member of the council of the EKD (Evangelical Church of Germany). |
