"I like going to school", so the children of Abidjan in Ivory Coast say, who this week received what for them is the best gift, a kit with books, notebooks, pens, colours and all the necessary for the new school year that has just started. They are children and adolescents in the slums of Abidjan that have found someone who believes in them and defends their right to education through the School of Peace of the Community of Sant'Egidio.
There are more than 3,500 children and teenagers that attend the Schools of Peace in Ivory Coast, true centres of education for peace and living together, the promotion of environmental protection and hygiene care. The delivery of the school kits and the School of Peace are a sign of the commitment of Sant'Egidio in Ivory Coast, which works with the poor to build a more cohesive social fabric and a lasting peace.
