The first Sant'Egidio aid to the populations affected by typhoon Haiyan were distributed yesterday in the far north of the province of Cebu, the most affected one.

The group of Sant'Egidio from Hong Kong and the Philippines travelled to an area that, according to Archbishop of Cebu mons. Jose Palma, is one of the most deprived of help.

There are evident signs of the passage of the typhoon along the northbound road from Cebu to San Remigio: houses and villages completely destroyed and many, often entire families, lined up along the road waiting for help.

San Remigio was hit in a particularly violent way. 90% of its 11,500 inhabitants became homeless (data provided by Cebu diocese). The church of San Juan Nepomuceno is practically destroyed.

The parish priest of the church helped the friends of Sant'Egidio to distribute the aid to a few hundred families. It is just the beginning. Other distributions will be provided in the coming days. We continue to help.
YOU TOO CAN DONATE!
