Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – Launch of the first training course for civil registrars organized by Bravo! for the universal and free registration of births
31 october 2011

corso di formazione promosso da bravo! per iscrizione anagrafica in burkina faso In Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 45 agents of the civil registry from all locations of the provinces of Bobo Dioulasso and Réo attended the opening of the first training course on the universal registration of births and other relevant topics connected to state registration, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio in collaboration with the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security. The course is the result of an important birth registration campaign which was held in 2009 and 2010 involving 3 million persons in the Country.

The registration campaign has now come to an end, and the programme now proceeds as an awareness campaign, with an ongoing monitoring of the birth registration and formation courses for personnel of the civil authorities.

There is a particular focus on the provinces of Réo and Bobo Dioulasso, in order to improve civil registration in all the municipalities. Special attention is given to the smaller rural villages which have all been visited to support the work of the civil registrars, to tackle major difficulties and define together the goals and objectives for the next months.

In order to sensitize the population, a theatre company is currently doing a tour in the two above mentioned provinces, with a special act stressing the importance of civil registration and showing which can be the consequences when people don’t register.

The formation course is another step forward in the way towards the construction and organization of a sustainable and lasting civil registration system.
