Peace is strengthened in the southern Philippines. Today in Mindanao, with a solemn ceremony, a first group of fighters of the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) symbolically gave arms, signifying the final transformation into a political force of the main actor of the guerrillas.
A significant step forward in the normalisation initiated with the signing of peace that took place in Manila on 27 March 2015, which put an end to a long and bloody civil war and started a process of recognition of the autonomous region of Bangsamoro.
The Community of Sant'Egidio, which as a member of the Contact Group of the peace negotiations has accompanied this process for a few years, expresses its joy and reaffirms its commitment to support the implementation of the peace process in the civil society and between institutions, continuing its commitment to interreligious dialogue and reconciliation. |
