"The statement by the Renamo’s spokesman that the Mozambique resistance movement still feels bound by the Peace Agreement of October 1992 is good news that gives hope for the possibility of quickly overcoming a critical stage of the democratic development of the country. During the 21 years since the signing of the Rome Agreement, mediated by the Sant'Egidio Community with the support of the Italian government, the consolidation of democracy has gone hand in hand with the economic development, and Mozambique has known a season of happy coexistence between political groups in contrast between them. The renunciation of military confrontation and the choice of the parliamentary ground for discussion and dialogue between the parties proved to be happy, and can not be questioned, otherwise the return of instability would be a serious damage to the country's future.
"The Community of Sant'Egidio, present in the country with more than 100 communities in many cities and local realities and with the DREAM programmes for the prevention and treatment of AIDS, and BRAVO for the civil registration of children, hopes that the the spirit of the peace Agreement continues to inspire all Mozambicans, and that dialogue is resumed in the belief that peace is the best investment for Mozambique".
