Peace, solidarity and prayer in the middle of the summer conferences of the Youth for Peace from Cameroon. More than 1,300 students have gathered in these days in the major cities of the country to reflect on a year's commitment to peace and friendship with the poor with the Community of Sant'Egidio.
Despite the many difficulties experienced by the country, such as corruption and unemployment, the Youth for Peace strongly reaffirm the dream of a more just and humane world, to be built starting to spread a new culture of peace in schools and universities. The encounter with the poor opens new horizons, and this is so from Douala to Ebolowa, from Yaounde to Maroua and Ngaoundere there have been many solidarity initiatives in these days, such as visits to the sick in hospital and in the leprosariums, to the prisoners in prisons, to the elderly in nursing homes or living alone in the suburbs and the parties in orphanages.
Cameroon is surrounded by countries that are currently hit by war and violence, such as the Central African Republic, Chad and Nigeria. Peace is a precious asset to be safeguarded and spread, the young Cameroonians know this well, who, at the end of the summer conferences, marched peacefully through the streets of their towns and villages, to remind everyone that "war is the mother of all poverty".
