With the motto 'towards the Jubilee Year of Mercy', more than 150 representatives of different communities of Sant'Egidio in Nigeria, were gathered in the capital city Abuja, in order to reflect together on the need of 'mercy' in a society that is in many aspects merciless.
Thoughts were shared about the widespread violence, the daily contempt for children, women and elderly and the possibility of a christian and human respons.
Sant'Egidio in Nigeria is committed to assist children, elderly, lepers and prisoners in their needs.
In his address, Msgr Matthew Hassan Kukah, bishop of Sokoto, incouraged the Community members to become 'footsoldiers of mercy'.
In the same occasion was launched the movement 'Youth for Peace', through which youngsters between 13 and 18 years old dream of and work for a better world
