Over 200,000 pilgrims from all over the World have reached Australia for the WYD. An international delegation of the Community of Sant'Egidio is present at the Sydney Days and is part of the “Youth Festival”, a series of events dedicated to the young pilgrims, for accompanying their path along this week of World gathering.
Actually, Sant’Egidio represents in these days one of the spirituality centres of Sydney, and many youth from all over the World have joined the prayer events held by the Community in the church St. Margaret Mary at North Randwich and in St. Canice parish at Kings Cross.
On wednesday, July 16th, at St. Aloysius College, the Community has held a lecture on the issue “Being friends with the poor: an essential for Christians”. Many people were impressed by the close link that, in the spirituality of the Community, unites the Gospel and friendship with the poor.
The delegation of the Community, after the conference, joined the many youth crowding the streets in Sydney for welcoming the pope arriving in the city.
