A delegation of Sant'Egidio, with Marco Impagliazzo, was received at the UN Headquarters of New York by Secretary General of UN, Ban Ki-moon and by Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos.
Ban Ki-moon, after recalling with appreciation the commitment of Sant'Egidio for a peaceful solution of several international crisis, said: "I congratulate you! There is no area of the world where you are not involved".
The Secretary General asked some more information on peace processes for Mindanao and Casamance and on Syrian issue.
Both Ban Ki-moon and Valerie Amos (in the picture on the right) support the campaign launched by Andrea Riccardi to save Aleppo. Moreover, they stressed the positive role that religions can play to build peace, as in Central Africa and Mindanao.
Marco Impagliazzo presented his thanks to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for his personal commitment in favour of the universal moratorium of executions, that's going to be discussed soon at UN Assembly.
The conversation touched also the longlasting cooperation between UN and Sant'Egidio in peace processes, since the peace treaty of Mozambique war in 1992.
