After the violent events in London, that caused the death of five innocent people, the Community of Sant’Egidio has chosen to pray for peace in one of the neighborhoods affected by the riots.
The initiative was meant to say no to all forms of violence and to start giving an answer to all the questions on meaning arose after these events.
The economic crisis and the fear for the future, that especially for the youth is no longer a certainty, have made everyone feeling more insecure.
The uncertainty has led to build walls of indifference and prejudice towards others, especially to the weakest members of the society.
London is a central node in the globalised world and an historical crossroads of many peoples, cultures and traditions, hence it cannot be insensitive to the recent social unrest.
The Community of Sant’Egidio has been working in the last years to build a welcoming home for everyone, especially for the poor. A home able to welcome and value the life of everyone.
The praying together for a peaceful coexistence among men and women, is a sign for many dreaming for a more sensitive and humane city. |
