To address the most urgent issues of today's society, coexistence and peace, hundreds of Religious Leaders of all faiths and Personalities from the world of culture and politics for more than 60 countries, will meet since next September 9th to 11th to Sarajevo, city symbol of contemporary history.
The International Conference is promoted by the Community of Sant'Egidio, in close collaboration with the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate, the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna-Sarajevo and the Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The initiative is backed by the full support of all Institutions and Governments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will be the greatest conference of religious and political dialogue since the end of ’92 war.
The meeting will take place in the line of the annual meetings for peace that the Community of Sant'Egidio, following the historic Day of Prayer of Assisi in 1986, has organized over the past 25 years in many areas of the world, spreading the "spirit of Assisi" led by the Blessed John Paul II.
This year the spirit of Assisi will arrive to Sarajevo. In the hall that welcomed Pope John Paul II during his historical visit to Sarajevo in 1997 the Press Conference to launch the International Meeting for Peace: “Sarajevo 2012” will be held.
The event will be presented by:
Vinko Puljic, Archbishop of Vrhbosna-Sarajevo; Vincenzo Paglia, President of The Umbria Bishops’ Conference, Community of Sant’Egidio; Irinej of Backa, Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate; Emir Kovacevic, Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina; Elma Softic-Kaunitz, Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
